Fangirl challenge | [6/10] friendships
"Booth once told me that you can only love one person the most. I feel that applies to friendship as well. You are that person to me."
the thing with this editorial work is that i have no ideas and it’s blocking me from doing anything else successfully because my life is entirely ‘but you should be doing THAT’
TOP 10 BONES EPISODES → #4: aliens in a spaceship
↳ “ Dear Agent Booth, you are a confusing man. You are irrational and impulsive, superstitious and exasperating. You believe in ghosts and maybe even Santa Claus and because of you I’ve started to see the universe differently. How is it possible that simply looking into your fine face gives me such joy? Why does it make me so happy that every time I try to sneak a peek at you, you’re already looking at me. Like you, it makes no sense, and like you, it feels right. If I ever get out of here, I will find a time and place to tell you that you make my life messy and confusing and unfocused and irrational and wonderful.”
Just out of curiosity, are there any others who really just dislike Elle Greenaway’s character? I think she was already gone by the time I first started watching CM (maybe idk it was almost 5 years ago) but I really don’t like watching the ones with her and am glad she was written out.
do you think you’re actually going to find other people who are glad elle’s gone in her tag or do you just want to piss off those of us who actually like her
Fine, lemme rephrase: What did everyone think of Elle Greenaway? I personally never really cared for her, but are there others out there who do/did? Are there others who agree with me?
well, since you put the question out there….i thought she was an amazing and complex character. even though she was only there for a little over a season, there was a lot to like about her.
she was good at what she did, both outside the bau (or she never would have been hired since they’re an elite team) as well as while she was at the bau. her time in sex crimes (and the backstory they had planned but never fleshed out of her being a rape survivor) really gave her insight into the victims they met and she’s incredibly soft and compassionate towards them; this is even more true after she’s attacked by the fisher king.
she’s funny and sarcastic; one of the first things she does is make a crack about how the only time morgan’s gonna see a little leg is when she’s kicking his ass. tbh it’s pretty damn ballsy on top of being hilarious since she’s gunning for the open position.
in fact, she doesn’t take shit from anyone, be it an unsub or the police. unsubs underestimate her, to their own detriment. she’s such a total badass. she has a cold fury about her when it comes to the unsubs (see the unsub link), which i think throws people off a bit, but again, go back and watch any scene with her + a victim or her + a victim’s family member and you can see what a caring and compassionate individual she is.
her relationships with morgan, reid, and hotch are super interesting. her interactions with all of them are just 5 stars wonderful and i ship elle/reid because of this fic (which btw is one of the most in-character fics for not only elle but also for reid (which is so rare), so plz read it, it’s very enjoyable and the shipping is light). they just go good together. her and morgan are total bros and i love love love it. I MEAN LOOK AT THESE BROS. plus PARALLELS which i always love. hotch always has her back (until he doesn’t and ugh p a i n) and this scene kinda kills me.
(i’m sad they didn’t really develop a ton between her and jj or her and garcia; i find her relationship with gideon to be devastating, but that’s pretty much all on his end considering that with his ptsd, he’s the one person who could truly understand what she was going through, but instead he ignores it and completely absolves himself of any responsibility for it happening in the first place)
the parallels between her and reid struggling with their ptsd hurt me so badly. a lot of times, i think about that scene where reid goes to see her when she’s drinking and he says “you won” and then the scene between reid and morgan where morgan’s telling him to use it to make him a better profiler…reid’s look and elle’s look to those pieces of advice hurt. it’s like…he finally understands what it feels like to be on the other side of the conversation and her response to him.
and if i thought those were bad…the parallels between her & lee and hotch & foyet hit me even harder, every freaking time. elle is ptsd’ing hardcore and then gets put into a really dangerous situation that mirrors her own attack. on top of that, after her attack by the fisher king, gideon never takes responsibility for her almost dying, hotch doesn’t apologize for not being clear with anderson, and neither him nor hotch go “huh, maybe we should get some lady leo to do this instead of elle bc this is super fucked up”. then everyone wonders ~why in the world~ she would 1) “overreact” and blow her cover (triggered, triggered, she is so fucking triggered oh my god) and 2) shoot lee. and then you’ve got hotch, so fucked up from his initial attack IN HIS OWN HOME JUST LIKE ELLE oh god (which he refuses to talk about) that he kind goes off the rails for the first few eps he’s back (basically until morgan is in charge, he’s kinda all over the charts), putting himself (and at times, victims) at risk. in 100, yes, his ex-wife is dead and he fears for his son’s life, but he kills foyet with his bare-freaking-hands after foyet said he’d stop (which, true or not, did not mean he needed to kill foyet, just knock him out and handcuff him). he’s quite clearly in ptsd mode with the way the scene is shot (all the flashbacks) and how he can’t stop himself. he literally has to be pulled away and held, sobbing like a small child, in order to stop. neither has been shown to be proud of their actions, so any time ppl act like hotch is a righteous hero and elle is an evil bitch for the way that they reacted to their trauma, i direct them to this post or this post bc they explain it better than i ever could.
if elle and prentiss had ever been on the show together, i think they would have been really good friends. they’re kickass women in a male dominated field who are both really good with victims and they both burnt out in rather similar fashions (tho thank goodness no one put prentiss in a terribly triggering situation that mirrored her own trauma and she got to leave in a manner that doesn’t allow people to demonize her).
so, idk, maybe you should really go back and rewatch season 1 again, straight through instead of just random episodes, because i think you’re missing out on a really great character because you were used to, and therefore, had a preference for prentiss. it happens, i was kinda the same way, but rewatching and going into it with a fresh mind really changed my perspective and maybe yours could too.

#this scene is sO important to me#actually this whole episode is so important to me because it shows how awesome their relationship#reid trusted hotch enough to know he had a plan and what it was and he understood what he needed to do#and that getting kicked was a neccessary part of it#but hotch still feels guilty about it#so to try and deal with that reid throws in a joke#and it works#i just love these two so much#their relationship is so important to me (via ssadrblake)

#otp: i knew you'd understand #aaron hotchner #spencer reid #criminal minds #no but i really like this scene #because it shows that reid is aware of his tendencies to ramble #and hotch doesn't stop him or anything #reid stops himself #and hotch is just very simple #confirming not condemning #whereas everyone else looks at reid mystified hotch knows that there's a point #and will wait as long as he has to because it's important that reid's heard #but at the same time recognises that sometimes they just don't have the time #look i just have a lot of feelings about them okay?
Hotch/Reid: Favorite Moments, pt. 2
in my little work bubble i have pretty much managed to forget it’s freshers week, and yes, people will be going out EVERY night.
#i mean i'm at the back of the building and i can't really hear much of anyone #but still #flatmates currently in the hallway almost ready #it's just... weird? #i don't feel like i'm profoundly missing out on anything #but it's still a little odd to see everyone of out like it feels so far removed from me even though its happening right in front of me #personal
"We’ve endowed Epps with intelligence he does not have. His clues are unsophisticated word games."
no but people who don’t like pacific rim because it wasn’t logical or scientifically accurate like
we don’t care
it is an homage to that genre. the original godzilla was a dude clearly in a rubber suit stomping cardboard tokyo and we were supposed to just accept that. pacific rim is a movie where a government council sat around like “what are we gonna do about these giant aliens coming from the ocean?”
"let’s build equally giant robots to punch them in the face"
"yes perfect" and like, that was of course the logical response because it’s friggin cool
mako didn’t use the sword because she had to wait until the perfect cinematic moment to do so
this movie is a love letter to painfully dumb action movies, but it is also one of the smartest movies i’ve ever seen. it’s just telling a story in a different way. instead of having audience vehicle main character explain everything to us, the movie shows you a world and asks you to accept its premise, and then lets you discover the story yourself.
this movie glorifies platonic love and familial bonds, this movie is about how we as people are stronger together, that it’s not one lone hero guy who can save the world, but the unity of all of us. it’s about the sheer unmitigated gall of humanity- “fuck this noise, we’re canceling the apocalypse!” it’s about the stupid dumb loud optimism that looks at the world and wants it to better, demands it be better, and does so with fists of steel.
it’s bombast and noise and i love it to bits so shut up and sit down and let me enjoy my giant robots punching giant monsters in the face okay?
